Prayer request for our C4I team in Tonga

editor - 20 January 2022

As many of you know, a volcanic eruption in the Pacific Ocean buried the Tonga archipelago in a layer of ash. Contact with the local population is still very difficult, because of the breach of an internet cable. Therefore, we have not yet been able to contact our Christians for Israel team in Tonga. We don’t know yet how they and the other residents of the archipelago are doing, however contact with the islands is slowly coming back. Our team in Tonga is supported by our team in New Zealand on a regular basis. We pray for protection of all residents of Tonga and that humanitarian aid will reach them quickly.

Update 25 January:
There is still no contact possible between our Christians for Israel team in New Zealand and our team leader in Tonga. Our leader in New Zealand reports: “Contact with the islands is possible, but very limited. They are using satellite and only government and emergency communications are operating, but not private. People are anxiously waiting for water supplies as there is a shortage of drinking water and also to clear volcanic ash from runways so planes can land with supplies. Navy ships will arrive in the next day or so with desalination plants. There are thousands of Tongans here in New Zealand, they are all having difficulty trying to communicate with family in Tonga. In many areas the entire vegetable crop was wiped out, so food is essential too. People are setting up projects in Auckland and elsewhere so people can donate clothes, food and other basic necessities. At the moment the situation on some of the smaller outlying islands of Tonga is still unknown as no communications are possible.”

Update 4 February:

We are grateful to report that our team in Tonga is doing well. Internet connection is slowly being restored, but a lot of help will be needed.

In You, O Lord, I have taken refuge;
Let me never be ashamed;
In Your righteousness deliver me.
Incline Your ear to me, rescue me quickly;
Be to me a rock of strength,
A stronghold to save me.
(Psalm 31: 2-3)
